This Takes the Cake!

My mother-in-law sent me these pictures last week... Aren't they amazing?! They're all actual CAKES! As I admired them, I couldn't help keep wondering where on earth the bakers found all the necessary ingredients here... I've never seen gel colorings or fondant in any shops here.

The sewing machine and kitchen model are mind-boggling...

Those are really quite amazing. The problem is that quite a few of them - while they may BE cakes, certainly have defeated the purpose of being appetizing. (Though I suppose the medical students need to have developed strong stomachs by this point.)

OK, I suppose that is a cranky attitude. But, there you are. I like some nice icing roses on my cakes.... Though I did think the cakes in Russia were amazingly beautiful - just the ones in shops! So, I suppose if that's what they have in the corner market, for a special event new levels must be reached.

I learned to sew on a Singer treadle machine that was very similar to this cake. The machine was my Grandmother's. It was not fun when oil leaked from it and got onto my fabric though.

one of the cakes is an arithmometer, you can guess which one. Remember, when last year Ben was using an abacus we discussed it, and you said that you never seen one - here it is.
