Lost Luggage: Update

Our lost bag finally made it to Moscow... And we were informed about the glad occasion in true "Moscow style," on Thursday.

Husband, intently concentrating at work, answers cell phone.

LOUD VOICE: (very annoyed) "WHY HAVEN'T YOU COME BACK HERE TO PICK UP YOUR SUITCASE??!"

Husband: (startled and indignant) "WHAT bag? My bag was found? It's in Moscow?"

Helpful Delta Worker, a.k.a. "LOUD VOICE": "IT'S BEEN SITTING HERE SINCE TUESDAY! WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO GET HERE TO PICK IT UP?!"

Ahhhh, customer service in Russia's capital... Yes, not only did Chris inconvenience them by not having telepathically known his bag was found, but he also had the nerve to be busy working full-time, unable to waste half a day to head back out to the airport to fetch his bag.

You got that last part right: if your luggage is now lost flying into Russia, YOU have to go pick it up. The day after our suitcase was lost, this article about the new policy was a featured story in The Moscow Times (thanks for the head's up, Expatresse!)

Chris got up early on Saturday morning and headed all the way back to the airport and fetched the bag. There are so many other ways he could have spent half of a weekend day!

I sure am glad to have all my books, though...

My husband accidentally left one of his bags at the Moscow airport on one trip to Russia and didn't realize it until we were checking into the hotel. When he [plus facilitator/translator and driver] went back, he was treated like a terrorist, and the suitcase, itself (even though it had been gone through in detail, all contents rearranged, marked, and sealed with a seal I've only seen in Russia - strings sealed with solder!) was on display in the security area, all by itself, as though it were actually a live bomb. He was interrogated thoroughly and only returned to the hotel several hours later. We had to give our facilitators some REALLY NICE gifts that time!!

SOOOO glad you got your suitcase back...even if you had to deal with the customer service agent from you know where.

Moscow Delta needs some Western lessons in customer service.
