You Know It's Almost September 1st When...

...the huge white Russian schoolgirl hairbows appear everywhere!

The "bow" section at our local accessories store is suddenly filled with an enlarged "all white" section. I've seen them in all kinds of places. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures tomorrow! Natalia cannot wait to start 1st grade and spent this morning organizing her school supplies.

They make me think of you, Annie! I'll be sure to get more for Nastya and her friend.

(Katya will be staying home because of her pneumonia, unfortunately. She's not well enough yet to return to school. I'll bring her to the doctor in the afternoon for another round of x-rays).

I've wondered how Katya was feeling. I've tried calling at all hours of the day since Fri. morning. Poor Katya. She must be so disappointed to be sick.

Is Natalia wearing white hairbows too?

Happy wedding anniversary! Hope my card reached you in time.

Please call me at work.

I'm heartsick for Katya! So sad to miss the first day.

I must say, I consider it an honor indeed, to be linked to from Moscow Mom's blog! :)

What is the word for those hairbows? I've tried looking it up, but I'm still unclear on it. Is it бантики?

I hope Katya feels better soon. It's so hard to miss the first bell.

Sorry to hear Katya is going to miss the first day! I hope she recovers fast and the x-ray is good news!

Poor Katya. I know she must be heartbroken to miss all the first day activities. I hope she is well SOON!

I was wondering if Natalia would do the bows too!

As a Mother of two children (one adopted from Russia and we are in the process of adopting another Russian baby) I can't tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog. I love getting a little peek into Russia from an American's point of view.

I love this time of year. The fresh slate is beautiful! I can forget the past issues from the year before, and look happily to my new group! I know you are doing more staff development type stuff, but are you still teaching?
We start next week, and I can't wait. (You know I still secretly long to be teaching over there near you!!)
Anyway, hope your Katya feels better soon, and can wear her pretty white bows when she makes her grand appearance at school!
ONe more question...Do the lower schools do any sort of Scholastic Book order in Russia? Just wondered if this is as popular as it is here???
Happy first day!

Pneumonia? Oh, dear. Hope she feels better soon.

I never come across those bows. I'm always looking (although, now that I think about it, I have no idea where the nearest accessory-type store might be . . . maybe the European Mall?)

I do think the ritual of everyone starting on September first is a great one. O keeps asking me why all the kids in America start on different dates. She is very disappointed to not be starting school until the 8th of September! At least tomorrow is new student orientation so she gets to be there a little.
Praying for Katya's health! God Bless!
