Change of Heart

This morning Natalia surprised me by gladly putting on her down parka. She even declared, "Winter is the best time of year!" Why? Because she realized it's when her birthday is. Given her anger about the impending cold and snow, that sure puts a lot of pressure on her big day to live up to her expectations!

Ay yay ay... Perhaps I'll bake a "tropical cake" again... (This one was for her birthday last December).

Hello, love your blog - I'm based in Moscow and the proud father of a son and a daughter - just a quick question - where do you get food colouring for your cakes, please?

I've searched high and low for it, and my daughter has all these wonderful recipes that require it.

It's too bad that I'll miss her birthday by a few days.

Let's talk about booking my flights.

Hi, Sleeper--

I'm sorry to say that I bring all food coloring back from the USA! I have the gel kind that is really concentrated.

I think you can get basic tubes of primary colors at Stockmann, though. They HAVE to be here somewhere...

Good luck!

Kids are so silly. Funny how some of us never grow out of loving our birthday! Cute cake... looks like something that made a huge mess in your kitchen at one point!

I was sure Natasha birthday is in December. Am I wrong on that?

I'm afraid Stockmann doesn't, although perhaps it used to. Or at least the one in Belaya Dacha doesn't, but maybe the Metropolis one is more expat-oriented.

Oh well, at least I have a trip to the UK next week.

It's always hit or miss at Stockmann; one week they have something, the next they don't. Keep trying. The one at Tyoplii Stan had it before... Good luck!
