Russian Houses

It was so white driving to Pushino today that at times everything blurred together. I had a "Dorothy" moment: "Toto, we're sooo not in Moscow anymore..." as we spend along.

I'm used to seeing the huge buildings in Moscow... It seems that everyone lives in apartments... But I love getting outside of the city to see these typical wooden homes... Aren't the windows pretty? Nothing has probably changed here for decades and decades... (Except for the satellite dishes!)

I took these pictures on the way home from Pushino; this is what the street (the main street) looked like. The houses were on both sides of the road.

Oh, these houses remind me of some of the scenes in Sergei Lukyanenko's novels!

I love those houses! Have you ever been inside one?

I love that architecture too. The old part of Perm city has houses like that, but interestingly I didn't see any painted like this. They were all rustic. The beautiful details of the woodwork show up even more with the color.

Just charming. Sure wish we'd seen houses like that last week when we went to Sergeev Posad. The houses you saw today were in such great condition and a far cry from those that we saw. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Very quaint and charming - in photos at least!

Those homes are so adorably quaint! I love your blog and desperately desire to visit Moscow someday.

I would even love to delve into life there for a while. What an adventure! I'd like to just emerge myself into the culture, find a way to work, learn the language and the way of life.

I've been a big fan of Russian figure skaters (it started with Gordeeva and Grinkov), which has extended into a fascination with all things Russian.

Love the new site design with the matroishkas!

These are so beautiful - thanks for sharing! Architecture other than tall blocks of flats is why I prefer being out in the countryside in Romania and driving through the little villages, but there is nothing as decorative as this. Well, except for the gypsy castles but they are a little too far the other direction for my taste. I'm curious too, have you ever been in one?

I love, love, love these houses! I've taken so many of those photos and never tire of looking at them.

As with barns here in the US, like Tina I am desperately wanting some magic wand to add a fresh coat of pain and whatever else needed to any of these cottages I see in disrepair!
